Overcoming mountains, cliffs, and harsh cold weather to build a professional wind monitoring system
1. Project Overview
Cao Loc, located in Lang Son Province, is an area with high wind potential and challenging terrain characterized by steep mountains, cliffs, pine forests, and terraced fields.
This environment not only makes transportation difficult but also requires optimized technical solutions to ensure safe and efficient wind measurement station installation.
The technical team from Thinh Phong MCT Co., Ltd. was assigned to deploy a professional wind measurement system to collect accurate data on wind speed, direction, temperature, humidity, and air pressure — key parameters for future renewable energy projects in the region.
2. Terrain, Climate, and Construction Challenges
Terrain:
-
High mountains alternating with deep cliffs.
-
Terraced fields and large pine trees creating uneven surfaces.
Climate:
-
The temperature drops sharply at night, often reaching near-freezing levels.
-
Strong and unpredictable winds make tower erection and sensor installation challenging.
Construction Challenges:
-
Transporting heavy equipment such as steel towers, sensors, and data loggers through slopes, muddy paths, and layered rice terraces.
-
Ensuring worker safety near steep cliffs and unstable slopes.
-
Protecting sensitive instruments from humidity, frost, and cold rain while maintaining stable operation.

3. Technical Solutions and Installation Process
To guarantee accurate and reliable data collection, the technical team implemented several key engineering solutions:
-
Site Selection:
-
Chosen at a high, unobstructed point to maximize wind flow exposure.
-
Avoided tall trees and uneven terrain to ensure representative data for the region.
-
-
Foundation Preparation:
-
Constructed reinforced concrete foundations designed to withstand strong winds and steep inclines.
-
Secured the tower with steel anchors and guy wires for maximum stability.
-
-
Equipment Installation:
-
Anemometers and wind vanes were mounted at standard heights (10–20 meters) to measure wind speed and direction accurately.
-
Temperature, humidity, and pressure sensors were installed in weatherproof shields to protect from rain, frost, and dust.
-
The data logger and power system were mounted on a safe, vibration-resistant platform with backup UPS power to prevent data loss.
-
-
Calibration and Verification:
-
Calibrated sensors using standard instruments to ensure high measurement precision.
-
Verified data transmission and remote monitoring from the logger to the central system.
-

4. Results and Impact
The Cao Loc wind measurement station has been successfully installed and is now fully operational, recording real-time data on wind, temperature, humidity, and pressure with high accuracy.
This achievement demonstrates:
-
Strong technical expertise under challenging environmental conditions.
-
Discipline, teamwork, and safety commitment during mountain and cliffside operations.
-
Significant contribution to renewable energy data collection for wind power assessment in Cao Loc and the northern mountainous regions of Vietnam.

5. Conclusion
The Cao Loc wind measurement project stands not only as a technical accomplishment but also as a symbol of resilience, precision, and dedication to renewable energy development.
It reaffirms Thinh Phong MCT’s commitment to providing innovative, safe, and high-quality engineering solutions that support Vietnam’s green energy future.
